Eastern Public, and would beg leave to attach a cutting from one of the most prominent Newspapers relative thereto.
In conclusion, I would mention that I entered the Public Service in St. Vincent in 1880, and was appointed Postmaster of that Colony in 1885, and was transferred to Hong Kong as Assistant Postmaster General in January 1899.
I earnestly hope, therefore, that my lengthened experience of postal work as well as my service as a whole will be deemed sufficient in warranting this my application for the appointment of Postmaster General to obtain the most favourable consideration.
(signed) B. Cornevall Lewis
Assistant Postmaster General.
THE POSTMASTER GENERAL
Commander F. F. Hastings, Postmaster General, accompanied by Mrs Hastings arrived from furlough by the German Mail steamer "Hamburg" last night. Commander Hastings, who looks very fit, lost no time in setting to work, being at his post of duty at an early hour this morning. In welcoming Commander Hastings back to the Colony, we take the opportunity of expressing public satisfaction at the manner in which Mr. F. D. Lewis, Assistant Postmaster General, has managed this important public office during the absence of his Chief. Mr. Lewis has had a lot of hard work to get through, but has succeeded most admirably while his tact and unfailing urbanity have been invaluable in making the machinery run smoothly and without friction. His ready efforts to suit the public convenience on every possible occasion have won him the highest esteem with the general public. We regret to learn that for some time back Mr. Lewis has been in indifferent health.
